Whitlock Sponsors Team for the Lance Armstrong Foundation

Annually, Whitlock sponsors two local individuals, Sean and Jeff Brown, in their journey across Iowa with 200 other riders that make up Team LiveStrong. The Brown’s are committed to participate in honor of their sister who passed away of Cancer a few years ago. The event is known as The Des Moines Register's annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI). Each LiveStrong rider must raise a minimum of $1,500 for the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF).

Founded in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist Lance Armstrong, the LAF is a registered nonprofit organization located in Austin, Texas. At the Lance Armstrong Foundation, they inspire and empower people affected by cancer. They believe that unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything. LAF provides the practical information and tools people with cancer need to live life on their own terms, taking aim at the gaps between what is known and what is done to prevent suffering and death due to cancer.

The LAF unites people to fight cancer and pursue an agenda focused on:

  • Prevention
  • Access to screening and care
  • Improvement of the quality of life for cancer survivors, and
  • Investment in research

"I think we all know someone that has either survived cancer or, unfortunately, lost the battle. We are proud to sponsor the Brown’s and wish them luck on their trek across Iowa."
